Welcome to 2015 at JAYBEE SQUARE WHEELERS
Christmas colours abounded for our last club night for 2015. Where has the year gone?
Mike – finally at Bev and David’s level. He was pretty unwell, following complications from the gall bladder surgery.
Birthdays for the next few weeks! Jaybees never forget a birthday!
Supper of mince pies and shortbreads provided by the committee and they went down a treat. Thanks to Chris Park for doing the shopping.
Colin Collyer had a chat with Mary, who came down from Bendigo to visit Jaybees.
Minnetta, Morgan, Helena, Don, Gwen and Bev having a bit of a chat.
Wayne and Wendy with Peter, Bev, John and Lynette
Enjoying chicken and champagne.
John and Lynette – two of our newer dancers.
Mike and Greig enjoying a glass and a gossip
Minnetta and Don were in charge of the drinks table.
Birthdays – Lorraine and Don who are ‘almost twins’ with Carmen.
Laurina, Coral and Mike
A group all dressed in their finery!
The plates of chicken were piled high – and still we finished off every scrap!
Mike, being very restrained as he teaches a movement to our newer dancers.
Chris Park – I love the hat!
We welcomed Pam with Matthew and Carolyn to the dance.
A good looking couple – Bob Lane and Wendy McKenzie
Sandra and Bob Warren-Smith’s table.
Brian Hotchkies’ visit was as popular as ever. His easy style ensured that even our learner dancers had no trouble following him. They had a wonderful time.
Brian – looking as chic as ever!
The Callers who entertained the dancers at the dance.
The group who all enjoyed Brian’s calling.
Mike and Dorothy having a ‘little chat’. I am guessing it involved food, judging with Dorothy’s intent expression!
Looks to me like Dorothy doesn’t want to be associated with these bathing belles!!
The Club took Brian out to Fasta Pasta the next evening – no expense spared!!
Brian with Brian and Linda Wilson.
Minnetta and Don with Brian and Shirley. Bob Warren-Smith was just trying to sneak out the door!
Having dinner at Fasta Pasta – Julie, Minnetta, Bob, Brian and Sandra
We had a very popular sports night in October. People came in their club colours and had a supper of pies and sauce. Whitehorse Club was closed for the night, so we had a few visitors who seemed to enjoy themselves.
Bob and Kaye Woods are here with Bob Lane and Wendy McKenzie, making sure that Lyn is having a good time with our club.
Don and Gwen Moxey are keeping company with Gary Dubski
Mike is trying not to talk down to David and Bev Love – very hard for him to do!!
Dylan and Matt are clearly enjoying each other’s company!
We had some visitors from Whitehorse, which was closed for the evening. Bev and Betty have a chat over a cuppa.
Aylene Moore with Helena and Morgan O’Brien and Julie.
Looks like Peter, Graham, Jan and Minnetta are all umpires!
Lesley, Ann and Doona are clearly following the same team.
Wendy, Emily, Julie and Laurina – discussing how many sleeps before Emily’s new baby arrives.
We had quite a few birthdays at Jaybees. Well, Robert and Annette have been away on holiday in USA, but we never forget a birthday!
We welcomed our newest dancers to Jaybees.

A happy table – Wendy, Bob, Kaye, Bob, Barry, Coral, Neville and Alexis.
Victoria and her ‘beau’, looking happy.
Wendy and Ross – looking very glamorous
Bob and Kaye – Oscar winners! Even though he is but a lowly chauffeur for the star of the show!
The Monte Carlo – Bob and Kaye thought they had found the perfect corner – Natalie and Darcy agreed!
It was a bit of a scarey month – Mike went into hospital for a quad bypass at the end of June and spent a week in the Cardiac Ward. We thought it would be months before he was back dancing and Laurina and the committee were working hard to fill the gap. However, all Mike had was two Tuesdays away. He came back, slightly battered and a little woozy as he was still on morphine, but he was up calling! Can’t keep a good man down!
Alan Bennie – our President, with Bev – looking happy to see Mike back at dancing
Mike is trying to sit on the stool to conserve his energy, but he keeps wanting to bounce up.
Dorothy and Dylan are getting a little close – I’m not sure what he has got on his hands, but if it is food related then Dorothy will know!
We are spending the month looking at some old style movements – maybe some old songs, or some seriously ancient movements. June 2nd was the first of the series and started with a bang! Mike taught Daisy Chain AND Grand Spin ( I do love Colonel Bogey). We dressed up in our old time gear and shared a huge supper before going home.
Alan and Mike talking nonsense – no wonder Bob is paying attention to another conversation altogether.
Just playing with colour – or lack of it – since it is an old time theme! Coral, Wendy and Julie are my happy guinea pigs!
It’s been a long time since Jaybees have seen this scene! Welcome back to Emily – here chatting with Dorothy and Laurina.
Emily and Tegan sharing a smile. Emily is a photographer, so she will be taking photos for Jaybees as well.
Julie, Bev, David and Bev sharing supper.
Linda, Greig and Brian – I kept missing the part where Greig told me where to go and stuck his tongue out at me – such bad manners!!
Lorraine, in her pink lady outfit, with Stephen, Julie and Jonathan.
Pat rescued this skirt from her back shed – apparently the top half disintegrated!
The Pink Ladies dancing in one square!!
Gwen, Laurina, Arthur, Peter and Julie around the supper table – come on guys – less talking and more eating!
Lesley and Colin Collyer – what more can I say?
Mike checking that Coral is feeling better, with Barry and Chris.
Once again, Jaybees birthday was an outstanding success. The Club has been going for 31 years, after being founded in 1984 by Jack and Shirley Burgess. Little did they know that their son-in-law, Mike Davey, would be taking over the reins for them and carrying on the Jaybee tradition of friendship and good humour!
Bill and Shirley Blake have been attending Jaybee birthdays for many decades – they are very supportive of the Club.
Cutting the cake – John Van Delft (President’s Award holder), Max Thiele, Wendy MacLean, Don Moxey and Greig Wight – all Life Members with Mike Davey (Caller) and Alan Bennie (President) overlooking!
Emily, Laurina and Mike having a chat about the program.
Emily Fry and Wendy discussing babies!
Gayle is trying to make Greig look a little happier about having his photo taken – it’s not working!
All the Jaybee dancers who attended our 31st birthday.
Jane and Joanne taking a short break in the dancing.
It’s not often we see Jim these days, so it was great to have him attend the dance. Here he is talking with Gary.
Sonya and Michael – coffee break time.
Julie and Matt brought their twins and Nicolas.
Some of the dancers in the back square – Andrew, Laurina, Wendy, Adrian, Emily, Adrian, Victoria and Jonathan.
Lesley and Mary catching up on news.
Poor Dorothy is now 6 months and gets very bored sitting on stage all night! She is a very good dog.
Mike and Laurina by the wonderful sign, made by Don Moxey.
Another interesting square – Helena and Morgan, Gwen and Don, Lyn and Mal and Jan and Graham.
Wendy with some of her ‘brood’ – Stephen, Korena, Julie and Elizabeth
MIchelle, Matt, Emily, Robert, Korena, Julie, Elizabeth and Stephen
Matt, Emily, Adrian, Korena and Julie.
Our AGM was very well attended, as usual. We had more than seven squares dancing and some more came along just to support the AGM. Congratulations to Alan Bennie – he has the dubious honour of being our President for 2015. We will miss Don Jennings, who has retired from the committee after 10 years in the job. Chris Park picked up the slack and is now Vice President and I’m sure that will work well – we will soon see as Alan is off on holiday next month and Chris will be taking over the top job! Congratulations also to John van Delft for the President’s Award and to Wendy MacLean for Life Membership. Also thanks to Katherine Collins for visiting us and Calling to the Club – she has a great voice and is a pleasure to dance to as she knows how to speak the calls and sing the words.
Wendy has brought her family into square dancing in a big way – here she is with Julie, Ross, Michelle and Stephen.
John van Delft and Wendy MacLean with their awards – both very well deserved, yet both recipients were surprised!
So poor Wendy had to listen to Alan talk about her accomplishments while she has been with Jaybees. It took a long time because she has been so proactive with our club for a very long time. Thanks Wendy.
Wendy MacLean being congratulated by Alan Bennie on achieving her Life Membership.
Adrian, Tegan, Chris and Joanne Park showing both green and orange for St Pat.
Mike Davey, our Caller and Laurina Collyer, our other Caller, greet Katherine Collins, who is a trainee caller with huge potential.
Alan Bennie, our President, giving John van Delft the Jaybee President’s Award for all the work he does to keep our finances in shape, pay our bills, ensure our government compliance, etc etc. Thanks John – much appreciated.
Our Early Birds, who arrived all dressed and ready for the dance. We were able to sneak in a quick Plus bracket while we waited for the tardier ones.
Poor Dorothy – only 5 months old and already stuck on the stage while Dad calls!
Doona Young, Minnetta McGilvery and Victoria Hooten show how easy it is to dress for St Patrick’s day.
Congratulations to Anna – she is now a member of our club and has the badge to prove it.
Not sure this is quite legal! I’m worried that Laurina may cause Bob to have a heart attack!
Three three Bobs enjoying supper – Bob Lane, Bob Warren Smith and Bob Woods.
It’s not often we see these nomads any more – retirement and a caravan definitely suit Brian and Linda Wilson as they have a chat with Christine Battersby.
The State Convention was held in Warrnambool this year:
Carmen and Elaine welcomed Mary, from Shepparton as she attended her first State Convention
Jaybees enjoyed the dress up evening, wearing their versions of beach wear.
Both dressed sets having fun.
The Blue and Red sets together looking fabulous. The certainly stood out at the Dressed Set Parade.
Once again Wendy excelled herself with her dressed sets – the Blue Set consisted of Laurina, Kevin, Carmen, Wayne, Emilie, Darcy, Tegan and Stephen looking outstanding
Shrove Tuesday / Valentine’s Day
Yum – it seems that Jaybees is the place to be if you like food!
Check out the kitchen! We worked hard to make fresh pancakes – Bev Bennie, Minnetta McGilvery and Lorraine Davey, with Dennis MacKay watching carefully and making notes!
Pam Hutton had a great time, even though she didn’t dance.
Neville and Alexis Jarvis with our President, Alan Bennie. Note their shiny new badges!
Matthew Dwyer, looking very teenagerish!
Ain’t ‘Love’ grand! Bev and David Love still hold hands – I
‘love’ it (sorry, was that one love too many??)
Alan Bennie (our President) and Ross MacLean congratulate Emilie on her new badge.
Emilie Christersson and Emily Busana having a chat.
Dorothy is now 18 weeks old and still likes to chew just about anything, particularly if it is forbidden! It’s ok – this rawhide bone is legal!
Bob Warren-Smith thinks pancake day is just great!
Family and Friends
Laurina and Mike sharing the stage.
The Leydon/MacLean clan – Wendy has found yet another baby to cuddle.
There was an interesting mix of young and older dancers all mixing up together.
The experienced dancers showing the new dancers what to do – the noise levels were quite high with much laughing and talking.
Australia Day Sausage Sizzle
No wonder we had ladies fainting all over the place – check out those sexy legs!!
Our Aussie ladies looking very chic!
Our three chefs making sure the sausages are looking good.
Victoria Hooten, looking lovely as always.
Yes, we had sauce, bread, even plates!
Helena and Morgan O’Brien wondering if they should have another before they all go!
What can I say? Don Moxey is a very naughty – he is certainly amusing Gwen and Betty!
Mike Davey is his famous Aussie outfit! We do love the Reject Shop!!
Roger Lloyd, Mike Davey and Chris Park checking on whether the sausages are cooked properly or not.
Maya admitted that, yes, she did make Ray’s shirt – it is very Aussie!
Maria and Graham are enjoying the sausages
David Love and Max Gray having a bit of a giggle together.
Colin Collyer, Arthur Rogerson and James Fellowes should be congratulated on their cooking skills!
Our first night back – with Whitehorse dancers visiting.
Wine, cheese and good conversation – a great way to start the new year. Oh – and perfect weather! Not too hot!
It’s not often you get a perfect wave with two squares working together!
Wine and Cheese is always fun – notice how Minnetta is scrutinising the bottle – was it a good vintage of orange juice!!
Mike with Laurina and Janice.
Mike, looking extremely happy with a lovely lady on each side of him! Laurina Collyer and Janice Alexander had some fun calling with him for the evening.
Dorothy – our Guide Dog puppy – is so over square dancing!!
